He is particularly interested in the history of technology, organisation and culture. Her interests are many and various but she now concentrates on her extensive collection of hair combs. As a comb historian she is near to completing a definitive history on these fascinating artefacts, ‘The Comb: Its History and development’ to be published in 2007. Followed by thirty years lecturing in engineering, eventually Head of Department of Design and Manufacturing at the University of Luton.Involved with plastics from the late 60s as design consultant for a number of major plastics moulding companies. Studied polymer technology at Cranfield University followed by research into structural foam. Collector of moulded plastics artefacts with design or processing significance with a particular interest in plastics tableware.Currently editor of Plastiquarian and the PHS Newsletter.Ian Holdsworth - taught Product Design and Design and Technology at Middlesex University, where he was also head of post graduate Design and Technology teacher training. Previous to this he worked in a number of industries before teaching in secondary schools. He is an experienced crafts person, teacher and author, with a long standing interest in the history of the development and use of plastics in product design and manufacture. Ralph Kay – his career was in polymer/ plastics science with emphasis on high performance plastics and composites. He has industrial experience in reinforced plastics, high performance coatings and adhesives including thin layer applications, e.g. laser holography and security documents.John Loadman – has had a career as a rubber research chemist/analyst and ‘industrial troubleshooter’ within the rubber industry for over 30 years. In later years, he researched the ‘health and safety’ aspects of rubber in contact with pharmaceutical preparations and the under-recorded history of rubber.
